3-4-1861:
Wow, Abraham Lincoln as president. Maybe we might finally get a change in this world. Good thing he beat that other fellow, I can’t remember his name.

4-18-1861: Oh my goodness! So much has happened in just a month! The attack on Fort Sumter, and Lincoln’s Proclamation for 75,000 soldiers. And guess who was one of them, that’s right, I’ve been recruited for the army; sounds fun.

4-20-1861: Ah, f*! Robert Lee joined Virginia right after they seceded from our side. Now we have to fight one of the best members on our side because he doesn’t want to fight his homeland. Bulls*!

4-9-1862: M God! 13,000 Union killed by those damn Confederate cowards! I barely made it out alive, not to mention that I took a bullet in the shoulder while retreating. Things aren’t looking good for us.

9-4-1862: The Confederates think they’re going to take Harpers Ferry with only 50,000 men, I don’t think so. We’re hot on their trail, with 90,000 Union soldiers eager to show them how to use a gun.

9-17-1862: Jesus! You have no idea what’s going on out here, almost 15,000 men dead, and it isn’t even 3:30 PM yet! I shouldn’t even be here typing, but I just think I should…

5-5-1863: Damn Confederate soldier shot my last laptop and I had to get a new one. Anyway, it’s not looking good for the Union again. Out of the 130,000 soldiers we had, we lost 17,000, but out of Lee’s 60,000, only 13,000 were killed. We’re losing our edge, we have to stay focused or we’ll lose this war.

6-4-1863: Ha! Those Confederate bastards thought they had the drop on us at Gettysburg, well they thought wrong. If we keep it up, all of this should be over soon.

6-17-1863: Wow! I knew that there wouldn’t be people who wanted to be drafted, but we came back to was ridiculous; the murder of children, arson, and causing 2 million dollars in damage. If the Union didn’t show up when they did, the whole city might’ve been burnt to the ground.

9-21-1863: What’s wrong with us? We should’ve been more careful! And now we’re trapped in a city in Tennessee surrounded by Confederate soldiers. Now we have to wait it out and hope for some kind of miracle.

6-3-1864: This will most likely be my last update. Grant screwed up and got at least 7,000 soldiers killed. Unfortunately, I may be #7,001 because I toke a bullet right through the chest and it messed up my spine something fierce. I thought being in the army would be the experience of a lifetime, but I didn’t expect things to end so soon.
Note 1: When and Why did Slavery Exist?

I honestly think that slavery is just forced, unpaid, manual labor. As for when it started, there’s no exact time period because slavery way around during the earliest times of Egypt. Back then; people would sell themselves into doing work as an alternative to pay off a debt they might owe. But, the slavery that involved the forced labor of Africans in America, started somewhere in the early 1600’s, and wasn’t made illegal until about 200 years later. The Africans were forcibly taken from their homes, and along with several hundred others, were stuffed into tightly packed ships, where they had to travel for several days from Africa to America. Once they arrived, they were treated like pack mules, doing nothing else, except what their owners tell them to do. And things didn’t get any better once they passed the Jim Crow laws, that was when African Americans began to be treated as a lower level than human; property. Things kept getting worse and worse for black people everywhere in America until the thirteenth amendment finally abolished slavery for good.

Note 2: Three Examples of Slavery Rebellion
Slavery is not fun. Things that are not fun to do are usually defied in some way. In terms of slavery, this defying came in the form of several revolts and types of resistance. Some of the more remembered being the resistance of Harriet Tubman, and the rebellions of Nat Turner.

The Rebellion of Nat Turner
When Nat Turner started his rebellion with only a few black slaves, no one was spared. They raided houses, freeing the captive slaves there, whiling at the same time killing any white people in the house. It didn’t matter if they were men, women, or children, if they were white, they would die. They used weapons like hatchets and axes so that they wouldn’t alert any enemy forces. Before the rebellion was suppressed, 55 white men, women, and children were killed.
Rescues by Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman was responsible for the rescue of about 100 slaves during her several years of going back and forth between plantations. With the help of “conductors”, she used the famous Underground Railroad to get slaves from their plantations in the South, to the freedom of the North. She always threatened to kill anyone who tried to turn back, because they would no doubt rat on her, and ruin the entire operation. In the end though, Harriet Tubman was probably the pinnacle of bravery in her success of showing several black slaves what it felt like to be free.
The First Major Slavery Revolt
In 1800 there was a slave named Gabriel Prosser, who was planning the first major revolt in slave history. Several other slaves led revolts with the same motive as Prosser; they were fueled by a Christian belief that told them that slavery was wrong. By August of 1800,Prosser had laid out, carried out, and armed thousands of slaves with a plethora of guns so that they could take the city of Richmond, Virginia. Unfortunately, two of Prosser’s followers betrayed him, and the bridge leading into the city was destroyed in a flood. So, the Prosser was captured and hanged along with all of his followers. But in the end, Prosser left a terrifying impact to slave owners everywhere because the slaves could’ve taken the city, if it weren’t for the major setbacks.
